Hello everyone, my name is Richard Khoo. I’ve been a professional game designer since 2004 and have had the privilege of designing games at Blizzard, Riot, Wargaming, and Pocket Gems. When I tell folks I design games, they often ask, “Why did you become a game designer?”
There are so many reasons why I love game design! At a basic level, I enjoy building things and bringing ideas to life. Games always evolve and new tools and techniques need to be learned and mastered. Another reason why making games is awesome is the creative collaboration—it’s magic working with creatives who are in sync. And perhaps my favorite reason: sharing the game with the world and hopefully making the world a happier place.
With those reasons in mind, my wife, brother-in-law and I founded a small indie company, Khookey. Khookey’s mission statement is to make innovative and kooky games with memorable gameplay, characters, story and music. Our first project is a sleuth, turn-based rpg inspired by Super Mario RPG, Metal Gear Solid, and Phoenix Wright. Along the way, I will be documenting our game development journey and sharing insights on how a veteran developer and his family can make a fun indie game.
